Intranet-based Broadband Network Management
Below depicted a global view of a Broadband System which was used as a Reference Implementation for our Intranet-based Management System Framework. To see the network clouds please refer to the Global architecture.
Each Agent represents here a Local Office management station which controls multiple racks of equipment. Each rack contains multiple Modems. Each Modem consists of multiple cards each handling several customers. This is a typical network of the DSL or cable broadband systems.
Front end GUI based on the Browser Applet handles all the business operations from handling customer records , through security log-ins to the managing network elements status query, insertions and manipulations.
Manager services all the requests from the Browser GUI screens, queries Database, and if a request needs a propagation to the Network Elements, it identifies the Agent involved and propagates the request to the Agent. Also notifications updates from the Agent handled by the Manager, providing message file loggings and generation of notifications by an E-Mail or pager.
Agent provides all the services to the Network Elements and processes requests from the Manager.
Services for the Network Elements include :
DHCP Server (part of the Agent) leasing the IP addresses,
Modems boot process to register with Agent a new equipment installed and powered as well as it's parameters including IP address.
Status queries and update notifications
Time synchronization
Programming authorizations and internet connection for the customers.
